Viewed vs Swiped Away: Read Shorts Metrics in Context
Do not use an “80% rule” as a universal pass mark for Shorts. Start with the current metric definition in Studio, then ask which videos and audiences you are comparing.
Make the comparison useful
- Record the reporting period and the size of the sample.
- Group videos with similar subjects and durations.
- Compare opening images and the promises in their first sentences.
- Read retention alongside the feed response.
- Change one opening element in the next relevant video.
A strong feed response cannot tell you whether viewers understood the explanation at the end. Conversely, a high completion percentage among a small audience does not prove broad demand. Use both observations to decide whether the opening or the body needs work.
Keep a simple note for each test: hypothesis, change, observation and next decision. Check the official analytics definitions if a label or counting method changes. Avoid buying or designing a production system around an unsupported algorithm threshold.
Put the script into production
Use the Shorts word counter as an estimate, then time your actual narration. Forgen is a Windows product in testing: provide your complete story and review the narration, scenes and editable CapCut draft. Connected providers may require internet access and usage credits. Join the waiting list if that workflow fits your needs.
