Words per Minute for Shorts: Measure Your Narration
Words per minute is a planning measure, not a universal ideal voice speed. Read or generate your actual narration, time it and include the pauses that make the explanation understandable.
Calculate from a timed sample
Use WPM = words × 60 ÷ spoken seconds. For example, 120 words spoken in 50 seconds equals 144 WPM. This is arithmetic for a hypothetical recording, not a recommended rate for every voice.
| At an assumed 150 WPM | Approximate spoken time |
|---|---|
| 75 words | 30 seconds |
| 150 words | 60 seconds |
| 225 words | 90 seconds |
- Time a paragraph with the selected voice.
- Include names, numbers and intended pauses in that sample.
- Remove repeated explanations before speeding up the audio.
- Listen at normal playback speed on a phone.
The table excludes extra pauses and visual demonstrations. If comprehension suffers, change the writing or duration. Do not use an invented word-count ceiling as evidence of audience fatigue or monetization eligibility.
Put the script into production
Use the Shorts word counter as an estimate, then time your actual narration. Forgen is a Windows product in testing: provide your complete story and review the narration, scenes and editable CapCut draft. Connected providers may require internet access and usage credits.
