AI Video to CapCut Project: Export and Compatibility
An MP4 is a finished video; an editable draft contains a timeline and references to media. Decide which result you need before exporting. Reimporting an MP4 will not recreate the original narration, scene and text layers.
Test the editable handoff
- Keep a backup of the project and its source assets.
- Check that referenced files exist before opening CapCut.
- Open the draft in the intended desktop version.
- Scrub the beginning, middle and end; inspect narration and scene placement.
- Make a small edit and export a sample to verify the handoff.
CapCut documents restrictions on importing one existing project into another. An application that creates drafts therefore needs its own compatibility checks; this is not evidence of a universal official project-import API.
When moving to another computer, verify media paths and installed fonts again. Keep the MP4 as a viewing copy and the draft plus assets as the editing package. Describe a compatibility failure precisely: missing media, unreadable draft and changed timing need different repairs.
